Cultivating

So this is a new blog mainly set up for the youth of GracePoint in Camas, WA, but if you happen across it then please read and share your thoughts. I will mainly post what God is doing in my life and the life of my family or what He is showing me through the scriptures and any other avenue He so chooses to use. Let's get started....

Two things God has placed on my heart is what do I believe about Christ and does it change how I live? I think these questions are important for us to probe since Christ is to reign in every aspect of our lives and His name proclaimed in all that we do. But here's the thing, I think we've bought into cultivating insignificant, short term things in order to make us happy. There are times that I will pursue things that have little to no long term significance and miss the real pursuits that bring long lasting joy and growth. I live in an illusion that deep relationships with my wife and friends will build itself or that my studies of the Bible will happen on their own. Or how about this when I go somewhere and have an opportunity to engage the lost for Christ, I squander it because I don't want to be bothered. I'm disappointed to say that it happens all too often.

My hope in saying this and exposing my flaws is this: that we will stop waisting our time cultivating the easy stuff and spend our time working on the things that mean something. These are the areas of life that will take the most time and are the hardest to face. Let's spend time building our witness for Christ at school, restaurants, coffee houses, and anywhere else the Spirit might lead us. Let's spend time cultivating real relationships that bring accountability and confession leading us to maturity in Christ. Let's cultivate our relationship with God outside of 15 minutes to an hour a day so that it grows to us abiding in Spirit throughout the day. This is my hope and prayer for each of us.

Go in peace...
